Last night, I finally got on HF for the first time — and I couldn’t have asked for a better debut. I set up my Wolf River Coils antenna for 20 meters, tuned into FT8, and ended the night with 29 QSOs… including 15 DX contacts! I’ve spent the last few weeks getting my portable station ready, and fighting with USPS while my Wolf River Coils got delayed by almost TWO WEEKS, and this was my first real test of how well it would all come together. Safe to say, I’m thrilled with the results.

Top DX Highlights from the Night

Out of the 29 QSOs I logged, 15 were with stations outside the U.S. Here were my 5 farthest contacts:
Callsign Country Distance (mi)
UA4FEN European Russia 5371.7
R5AV European Russia 5368.7
R8LB Asiatic Russia 5234.4
UR4QWW Ukraine 4926.9
SV1AIN Greece 4882.7
My antenna setup was simple — the Wolf River Coils vertical — and my mode of choice was FT8. That combination opened the door to some serious DX, and now I’m even more excited to see what this summer holds as I start activating parks for POTA.
